These are some of the organizations that we are proud to support with regular, ongoing donations.
See below for the complete list of charities with the items donated to each. The list is updated frequently as new charities are added and the needs of existing charities change.
The Christion Care Center is an umbrella over several ministries serving people in the Leesburg/Lake County area. We donate baby items and soap sacks to the Pregnancy and Family Care Center and toiletry pouches and blankets to the Benevolent Center.
We donate chemo caps, port covers, mastectomy pillows, Knitted Knockers (soft breast prostheses), and/or lap blankets to several centers.
We support several charities that deal with individuals and families in need. We donate soap sacks and toiletry pouches; hats, scarves, and mittens; fleece and yarn blankets, and children's clothing and gifts at Christmas.
Vitas comes from the Latin word for lives. It reflects their goal to improve the quality of life for terminally ill patients and their loved ones, helping them deal with the effects a serious illness can have on their lives. Vitas has been providing care since 1978 to patients in their homes, in nursing facilities, and in hospitals. We donate a warm shawl or lap blanket for each patient, prayer squares that are distributed by VITAS chaplains, and sensory sleeves (Twiddle Muffs) that give comfort to dementia patients.
Volunteers to sit with patients, visit with a well-behaved pet or sew a Memory Bear are always needed.
Hospital staff use medical dolls as teaching tools for children undergoing medical testing such as Xrays, MRIs, etc. Knowing what to expect has a calming effect. We donate dolls and youth surgical caps to more than ten hospitals. We also donate fabric hearts to neonatal intensive care units (NICU's) which help bond parents with their babies.
Warm Up America creates blankets from 7"X9" crocheted, knitted, or loomed panels from all over the country. Our members donate panels that two of our members join to make blankets. We donate the blankets locally, including at special "Warm Up America" events.
Gateway to Hope Ministries offers many services to families that live in the Ocala National Forest. We donate soap sacks and toiletry pouches; hats, scarves, and mittens; blankets; small toys to give out with food supplies; and help with their annual Christmas parties. In 2023, we contributed to the fund to purchase a turkey for 50 families.
We donate hats and scarfs suitable for Florida's winter months to several schools in the tri-county area (Marion, Lake and Sumter counties).
We donate lap blankets, prayer shawls and prayer squares to several facilities. Many members make blankets and shawls in red, white, and blue to honor our veterans.
